SEMANTICS
Assalamu'alaikum. Hello guys!!! We have another topic today. Yes, we will study about 'semantic'. What is semantic? What are the examples of semantic? Is it related to syntax? If you wanna know more. Please find out on this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/12VVvrTpyof9bXvQwgVntkrxnNHBzMjLv/view?usp=drivesdk.
Have you finished it? I think you've read it. Now, please ask me if you have any question about semantic. I'll explain to you according to experts' explanation and according to me. Thank you for reading my blog.

I have a question to u,u say semantics is a lexical study of meaning, so my question is what meant by 'meaning' in this semantic itself?
thanks
In The Evolution of Language (2010), W. Tecumseh Fitch points out that semantics is "the branch of language study that consistently rubs shoulders with philosophy. This is because the study of meaning raises a host of deep problems that are the traditional stomping grounds for philosophers." For example
The apple eats you. It is well-structured in lexical meaning. But, in semantic meaning, the sentence is very odd. So, the semantic take a part in this case.
The following examples demonstrate the difference between the two:
She hasn’t taken a shower.
He was so tired he could sleep for days.
In both of these examples, the context and pragmatic meaning really define the sentence.
In the first, did the speaker really mean to say that the woman has not ever taken a shower, not even once? Although the sentence says just that, the listener in the conversation may understand, based on other factors, that the speaker means that the woman they are referring to has not taken a shower … today.
In the second example, we have a guy who is so tired he can sleep for days. Is he really going to sleep for days? Semantically, we would need to take that sentence to mean exactly that. But, in casual conversation, the listeners and speaker might tell you that the guy was just saying he was really, really tired, and using those words to convey that meaning, instead of saying, ‘he was really tired.
"Oddly," says R.L. Trask, "some of the most important work in semantics was being done from the late 19th century onwards by philosophers [rather than by linguists]." Over the past 50 years, however, "approaches to semantics have proliferated, and the subject is now one of the liveliest areas in linguistics." All the the study of how languages organize and express meanings will be analyzed by semantics meaning. That's the extent of a linguitics problem that we can solve by using semantics meaning. Thank you.
And then, it is important to apply of semantics knowledge in teaching English to school students because the students not only learning about speaking but also all of the language skills, such as listening, reading and writing, so they must be active and creative in getting their language ability. We talk start from reading, the students should know and make a comprehending of the information that they have found after they read some sentences or paragraph. If they do not know what the meaning of the word, and how they can identify sentence by sentence, it will be difficult for them. The second, in writing students required to write some sentences or paragraph in good constructions, if they want to have or produce a good writing. The students should know how to choice or use the word that suitable based on the context. And the last, it is about listening. In listening comprehension students should know many of vocabulary and how the people pronounced the word, because in English there are so many words that have the same sound, and it needs more explanation from the teacher. This thing needs the role of the teacher in guiding the students to get the good result. And to be the guider or teacher you have to apply your ability or knowledge especially semantics knowledge. The teacher should teach their students to find the suitable meaning of the word when they are in reading the text. The teacher should guide their students.
your statement is not entirely correct. because of that statement, we shoul learn about semantics and pragmatics studies to add our insight about how to communicate well with each other. if we know semantics and pragmatics, it will be easy for us to understand what we want to utter and what someone tell to us. thank you.
for me, the method is to learn both of these studies and you will know how to differentiate between pragmatics sentences and semantics sentences. actually, it is easy to differentiate for someone who has learned about pragmatics and semantics. because pragmatics sentences usually used metaphor words and the meaning is not the same with the true meaning. while semantics sentences usually used the straight words with the straight meaning of the words in sentences. thank you.
